The Sivananda tradition has 5 simple points in the maintenance of health and well-being:
  1. Proper exercise
  2. Proper diet
  3. Proper breathing
  4. Proper relaxation
  5. Positive thinking and meditation

Maybe we can have programs like these in the future:

First thing first... get published... get tenured... get a house... get famous... get rich... get rich and famous... and if those things don't happen... there's always the next lifetime.

Last night at the shala...

... was a perfect opportunity for the regulars to experience a Sivananda class.

I'm not usually very strict regarding following the moon day tradition as most of the students here don't really practice 6 days a week. Based on my experience, I feel the subtle effects of the moon days more when I do my full practice regularly (meaning 6 days in a week). I've split my practice to keep it under 2 hours since last month.

2 of those who attended the class last night decided to continue their ashtanga practice and 1 of them said she felt a bit heavy during practice. Coincidence? I told her to make a record of those days when she'dl feel either heavy or really light and strong. Chances are, those days will fall +/- 3 days around moon days.

Last night was special. It was a new moon plus it was the day of the longest total solar eclipse
in 2009.

Jaya Ganesha Jaya Ganesha

We chanted this twice a day during morning and evening satsang.

For some reasons, I also have this in my ipod.

I find myself playing it every morning while I prepare to go to Makati.

I feel like going back to the ashram.

Manila is too noisy.

Makes me think if I have lost my focus.

Maybe I just need to chant Jaya Ganesha everyday.

jaya ganesha, jaya ganesha, jaya ganesha pahiman

sri ganesha, sri ganesha, sri ganesha rakshaman

Serve Love Meditate

Everything is set. I'm off to the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Dhanwantari Ashram at the beginning of next month. Practicing at the shala has been great but I've decided to see a little bit more of India and experience life in an ashram. The Sivananda Book on Yoga was my first introduction to this wonderful discipline and now that I'm in India, it would be nice to spend some time there and learn about this approach. Will be staying in the ashram for 2 weeks then explore Trivandrum, Kovalam, Varkala and Kanyakumari before I fly back to Bangalore and then to Phuket via Singapore.

The basic schedule at ashram would be:
0520 hrs WAKE UP BELL
0600 hrs SATSANG
0730 hrs TEA TIME
0800 hrs ASANA CLASS
1000 hrs BRUNCH
1100 hrs KARMA YOGA
1230 hrs COACHING CLASS (optional)
1330 hrs TEA TIME
1400 hrs LECTURE
1600 hrs ASANA CLASS
1800 hrs DINNER
2000 hrs SATSANG
2200 hrs LIGHTS OUT

It would be a nice change to the create-your-own-schedule atmosphere here in Mysore.

The 5 Points of Yoga constitute the essence of the teachings of Sivananda Yoga. These are the proper exercise, proper breathing, proper meditation, proper diet, and positive thinking and meditation. Simple yet holistic and a complete approach to classical yogic lifestyle.

Om Namah Shivayah * Om Namah Shivayah * Om Namah Shivayah
