Apologies

To my fellow Dabawenyos,

Apologies to those who have signed up for tonight's led class at Metrolifestyle Davao.

Flight from Hongkong was delayed.  We left HK at 3:30pm and we're now in Manila waiting for our flight to Davao.

We've rescheduled the class tomorrow at 1-3pm.  Hope to see you there.

Namaste.

Of food and yoga...

Italian... Middle eastern... Filipino... American... Chinese... Thai... Indian...

If we like it... we eat it...

If we don't like it... we don't eat it...

We don't criticize the food that we don't like...

Someone else likes it...

We don't condemn Indian food just because we don't like the smell of cumin...

All food serves one purpose... to nourish the body...
Ashtanga... Iyengar... Bikram... Anusara... Vinyasa...

If we like it... we practice it...

If we don't like it... we don't practice it...

We don't criticize the style that we don't like...

Someone else likes it...

We don't condemn vinyasa yoga because it is not traditional enough...

All eventually leads to one purpose... Union.

Dietary Guidelines for Vegetarians

...the following guidelines can help vegetarians plan healthful diets:
  • Choose a variety of foods, including whole grains, vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, seeds, and, if desired, dairy products, and eggs.
  • Minimize intake of foods that are highly sweetened, high in sodium, and high in fat, especially saturated fat and trans-fatty acids.
  • Choose a variety of fruits and vegetables.
  • If animal foods such as dairy products and eggs are used, choose lower-fat dairy products and use both eggs and dairy products in moderation.
  • Use a regular source of vitamin B-12 and, if sunlight exposure is limited, of vitamin D.

Sunday with an Old Friend

A beautiful Sunday...

The yogi cooked again...

Jackfruit curry by Tesa and eggplant subji by me.

***
Eggplant Subji Recipe

Ingredients:
About 5 cups cubed eggplant
1 tomato chopped
1 onion diced
a thumb of ginger, minced
5 cloves garlic, minced
3-5 tsp garam masala
a pinch of turmeric
mustard seeds
oil

Instructions:
Fry the mustard seeds in 1-2 tbsp oil and wait until it begins to pop.  Add garlic, onion, ginger, tomato and cook until fragrant and the tomato begins to disintegrate.  Add garam masala and turmeric.  Mix well.  Add the eggplant.  Mix well.  Some water and cover until cooked.  Stir occasionally.  Season with salt.  Adjust taste by adding more garam masala.  (I can still smell it in my fingers... yum yum).

The Reason Is To Teach Us Some Lesson

Nothing happens without a reason. The reason is to teach us some lesson. There is always a good lesson in whatever happen to us, even in the midst of our losses. I don't mean only in material losses; it's that way even with losses of our near and dear. The whole world is a university, and we and all here learning. Every individual should think, "I am the only student. Everyone and everything are my professors." - Read the rest of it here.

It feels good to be back teaching yoga.  6 students came this evening and for me, it's a good number. 8 should be maximum per teacher, especially in a Mysore class.  Otherwise, the teacher cannot really give all the students proper attention and guidance.

The animals were fed today.
