Asking for peace and healing this Christmas season...

This is in response to "Help Heal Our Land".

***

Don't you notice anything
In your environment?
The air is has gone polluted
Even so our children..

Progress isn't a bad thing,
and we've come a long way for it
But look at the waters of the seas
before were blue but have already turned to black
Don't let all the dirt we have made and scattered into the air to reach the heavens
So when we are gone, we will only have fresh air to breathe in heaven

There is only one thing I'm asking for,
that when I die I hope it will be during the rainy season
With me, I'll bring my guitar, so together, all of us will sing upon the clouds

Those children that are born today,
Will they still have the air to breathe?
Will they still have the trees to climb up on?
Will they still have rivers for them to swim onto?

Why don't we think about what's happening to our environment?
Progress isn't a bad thing if it does not harm our nature
There will come a time, even those birds will have nowhere to perch on
Look at that tree that has stood there robust for a very long time, now dying because of our foolish actions

All of the things that exist on this earth are all blessings from God even when you're still not here
Let us take care of it, and protect it because if He will take it back from us, we will all be gone.

From Asana to Action

Just my little way of influencing social change. Fellow YM teacher Berta forwarded this to me and thought it would be good to post in here since this blog has been about yoga, vegetarianism and the Philippines.

"Yoga is about creating community, relationship, and connections, and service is inevitably about that, too. We have the responsibility to create an environment where all people can be abundant, happy, and free." - Sean Corn

"Yoga is social activism. What affects one of us affects all of us." - Ashley Turner

Taking Part in Earth Hour 2008

I just signed up to the new Earth Hour website for 2008. Earth Hour is on 29 March 2008 at 8pm, and it looks like it's going to be really big. So far, as well as Sydney, there'll also be Adelaide, Atlanta, Bangkok, Brisbane, Canberra, Chicago, Christchurch, Copenhagen, Dublin, Manila, Melbourne, Montreal, Odense, Ottawa, Perth, Phoenix, San Francisco, Suva, Tel Aviv, Toronto and Vancouver all turning off their lights for an hour in the name of fighting global warming. And I'm sure there'll be more cities by March.

Sign up for Earth Hour with me by visiting www.earthhour.org and join the movement.

Earth Hour 2008

From yogini friend Elle Tan.

=====================
On March 29, 2008 the Philippines will join countries around the world as we literally "turn the lights out" for Earth Hour – an event that will fuel awareness on climate change and prove that when the people of the world work together, they can make a difference in the fight against global warming.

Earth Hour will take place throughout the Philippines from 8 to 9 in the evening on Saturday night, 29 March 2008. WWF invites you to participate by shutting off lights for 60 minutes, organizing your own "lights-out" event or by forwarding this mail to your friends, workmates and family.

It started with a question: How can we inspire people to take action on the world’s climate change?

The answer: Ask the people of Sydney to turn off their lights for one hour.

Launched in Australia on the 31st of March 2007, Earth Hour moved 2.2 million
people and 2100 businesses in Sydney to turn off their lights for one hour. This massive collective effort reduced the city's energy consumption by 10.2% for one hour, which is the equivalent effect of taking 48,000 cars off the road for a year. With Sydney icons like the Harbour Bridge and Opera House turning their lights off and unique events such as weddings by candlelight, the world took notice. Inspired by the collective effort of millions of Sydneysiders, many major global cities are joining Earth Hour in 2008, turning
a symbolic event into a global movement.

YOUR participation will go a long way in spreading the message that we, as individual droplets working collectively – can create an impetus far more powerful than the mightiest of rivers.
