Authorized and Certified Ashtanga Teachers Visit the Philippines

One of the more popular posts of this blog got to be the "Philippines: An Ashtanga Country."  With five ashtanga teachers (three authorized and two certified) coming to conduct classes, workshops and retreats in the country this 2011, ashtanga in the Philippines is definitely growing.  To know about the difference between an authorized from a certified ashtanga teacher, read here.

Govinda Kai, my lovely friend Tesa's teacher, will hold mysore classes on July 26-27 and August 1-4 at Bliss Yoga Manila.  The weekend in between (July 27-31) will be a yoga retreat in Nasugbu.  Details are posted in Tesa's blog.

Also on the first week of August, Jessica Blanchard will be teaching mysore and led classes at Yoga Manila Ortigas (August 1-7).  She will also conduct a weekend workshop on ayurveda and will be available for private consultation for the duration of her stay.  The details are posted here.

In September, John Scott will be back in Manila and will teach mysore classes at Stillpoint Manila.  Because John limits the number of people in his mysore classes, the slots fill up fast.  Fortunately, he will also have a workshop on the Alchemy of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga from September 2 to 4.  You may contact Stillpoint Manila through their FB page.  Also in September, Mark Robberds will be teaching at Mandala Spa in Boracay for one week.

Then in October and December, Clayton Horton will be conducting ashtanga intensives also at Mandala Spa. Mark Robberds' and Clayton Horton's program details are posted here.

I gathered these information mostly from the web.  If you know of any other KPJAYI-authorized/certified teachers visiting the Philippines this 2011, please let me know so I can update this post.

Where/With whom to study or practice ashtanga in the Philippines?

Yoga Manila - teachers are long-time practitioners and are trained by Paul Dallaghan.  He owns and operated Yoga Thailand, a beautiful yoga retreat and training center in Koh Samui.  Paul received his certified status from Guruji in 2007.

Stillpoint Manila - the main teacher, Becky, is a devoted student of John and Lucy Scott.  John is a world-renowned ashtanga teacher and author of Ashtanga Yoga: The Definitive Step-by-Step Guide to Dynamic Yoga.  He is a long-time practitioner of ashtanga and received blessings from Guruji to teach the method in 1993.

Yoga Malate - Tesa teaches here every Monday.  In 2007, Tesa received her 200-hour training from Alex Medin, also an KPJAYI-certified teacher.  She now considers Govinda Kai her primary teacher.  Tesa is a devoted student of the ashtanga method and has been practicing yoga for more than a decade.  She has a beautiful practice and does an amazing kapotasana.

Echo Yoga - most of the teachers also received their training from Paul Dallaghan.  Tesa also teaches here regularly.

Boracay Yoga - the teachers are also long-time practitioners who received their training from Clayton Horton.

*Here is a list of other places/teachers who offer/teaches ashtanga:

*Let me know if I missed anyone.
