Death by Durian

Kablon Farm's food products are just some of the more popular pasalubong items from Mindanao.  I usually buy some from the Davao international airport for last minute pasalubong shopping for friends in Manila.  Last week, I bought a bottle of the durian jam.  A teaspoon of that jam and you have a dessert.

"Life is unsure... (so) eat your dessert first!" That's the slogan of Margie's Kitchen.  I first had their oatmeal thins in Manila and I think I had the whole canister in one sitting.  Their brownie thins is also good.  It's not a good idea to stock up on these items as you'll end up eating everything in one go.

So I tried their durian buttercake last week and thought it was great.  My mother, a durian lover herself, wanted to try the buttercake so after teaching a pilates class at a local gym last thursday, I passed by Margie's kitchen in Torres and bought a loaf of the durian buttercake.

When boredom sets in, creativity blossoms.  I thought, "hmmmnnn... why not make the durian buttercake more sinful?" I took two thin slices of the buttercake, spread a teaspoon of the Kablon's durian jam on one of the slices, put the other slice over, cut it in half, placed it on the center of a dessert plate, zigzagged condensed milk on one side of the plate, and voila! Death by durian.

If you see Death by Durian in one of the dessert menu in any of the restaurants in Mindanao, know that it was first published here.  :-p

I received my student number this morning.  That means I'm officially a grad student at JyU.  I still don't have my resident permit though so exact departure date is still pending.  It will be 2 months on monday since I submitted my application so it should come anytime next week.

It should be an exciting week.

Happy weekend!
